Day 1: Exploring Hong Kong

A pamphlet from 1960 -- the skyline has changed dramatically in 50 years.

The Hong Kong Airport is a favorite.

Kowloon Tong, an upscale residential area. The subway connects two pristine, multi-level shopping malls in different districts, both decked out for Christmas, both filled with Western clothing retailers, bookstores, electronics stores. I loved the plexiglass Schimmel grand piano.

Went out for sushi. The uni (sea urchin roe) was wonderful.

Mong Kok, a section of Kowloon known for casual eateries and night markets, where people haggle over everything from antique jade to fake designer fashion.

The sizable Ladies' Market.
I enjoy being harrassed by creepy men who would emerge from the shadows with aggressive offers of "copy watches??" "Copy bags???" "Suit! Tailor!!! Just for you!"
